New community, new school

Two contemporary barn-like structures celebrate Milton Keynes’ vision for its expansion. Drawing on the agricultural precedent of the greenfield site, GNA composed two volumes that frame a public space, welcoming pupils, teachers, and the community to this new primary school.

Through extensive stakeholder engagement, a vibrant learning environment was created. The strong architectural identity of the built forms represents the two key stages. A glazed link, housing the entrance and the LRC, connects the two elements presenting a welcoming approach set within a quality public realm.

Sustainability was a key consideration for the form of the building. The angled roofs utilise the barn-like structures to support photovoltaics which supply renewable energy, and a fabric-first approach and the use of offsite fabrication, reinforcing the sustainable agenda.
