Located in the heart of Birmingham’s City Centre, the Axium provides over 300 brand-new, high-end, luxury apartments. Glancy Nicholls Architects worked with the client and consultant team to design and deliver a mix of high quality one and two-bedroom apartments and associated facilities. The scheme enhanced the City’s residential offering, enabling residents to make the most out of the city.
The original site had been in an area of mixed character that needed regeneration. As it is located on one of the main routes into Birmingham’s centre, its redevelopment has been a significant step forward for the area. This context has been key to influencing the Axium’s design. The contemporary brick building has been raised in various locations to accentuate its form, creating focal points for the nearby junctions of Windmill Street and Exeter Passage. By considering these focal points, the hierarchical language of the site’s elevations has been incorporated into the building’s design to reflect the surrounding context.
