Supporting the needs of older adults in south Derbyshire

Oakland Village sets standards for others to follow, it is an award-winning design with a vision of a new community where people can enjoy outstanding facilities and accommodation close to Swadlincote Town Centre. The development brings together a wide range of high-quality services to support the needs of older adults as well as the local community. We worked closely with the client team through all RIBA stages.

Oakland Village has developed strong links within the community encouraging visitors to enjoy the wide range of facilities that are all open to the public – including the function rooms, bar and bistro, hairdresser, convenience store and library as well as regular events and activities. The Charity ethos has allowed successful partnerships across South Derbyshire, and which will continue to develop through local links with suppliers, businesses and customers.

The building itself consists of a 32-bedroom specialist community care centre, 88 extra care apartments, 2 guest rooms, an office suite for Careline services and numerous shared/community facilities. These facilities include a restaurant, bar, gym, multi-use village hall, library, therapy suite, hairdressers, treatment/consultation suite and craft rooms.

Since its opening, the development has been hailed a huge success. The residents and staff are happy with the environment created, and the local communities’ use of the facilities has given the building a vibrancy that has exceeded the original vision.
