Major regeneration in Calthorpe Estate

Glancy Nicholls Architects are delivering the first phase of the New Garden Square Masterplan, comprising a new residential-led mixed development in the suburbs of Edgbaston.

Encompassing the best of both worlds, this new development incorporates all the conveniences of city centre living, including entertainment, leisure, and transport, alongside the opportunity to enjoy beautiful green spaces. Located opposite Hagley Road’s new metro stop, the development is linked to wider Birmingham whilst also enjoying the advantages of its connection to the leafy Edgbaston conservation area.

The first phase will deliver circa 400 apartments with a landscaped courtyard, high-quality amenities including a resident’s lounge, guest rooms, gym, and bike workshop, as well as connections to the new public realm and wider New Garden Square Development.

The scheme has been developed to respond to the historic context along the street frontage, through considerate massing and use of materials. The development’s high-quality elevational design utilises Regency and Georgian proportions to further reflect the site’s historical context. The wider site champions accessibility by maximising pedestrian routes, providing cycle access, and using landscaping to introduce considerate levels.
