Best Dementia Care Development 2016 at the Building Better Healthcare awards, this development is a Specialist residential care facility for the elderly suffering with serious dementia. The scheme is a bespoke modern building designed to address the specific requirements of the residents.
The accommodation consists of 16 long term and 16 short term en-suite bedrooms with associated dining, lounge and activity areas. The project also includes: a full production kitchen, restaurant/cafe, hair dresser, daycare, activity rooms and treatment facilities etc. The building offers long-term residential care alongside short-term intermediate and respite care/rehabilitation within a safe environment.
While it was a challenge to work within the existing topography and constraints of the site, it has resulted in a proposal that ensures both residents and visitors to the Day facilities are afforded great views over the landscape, whilst still maintaining a visual and physical link with the market square.
Florence Shipley has achieved a gold standard accreditation by the University of Stirling.
“We were blown away with the design of Florence Shipley and so impressed by this fantastic facility. We loved how there is so much light in the building, the interior design and how calm the residents were. The café was packed with people of all ages which amazed us, as we would not have thought about bringing in the community.”
