The old Brandauer Works factory in Birmingham City Centre is set to be renovated into brand new student accommodation by Glancy Nicholls Architects.
The Grade II Listed pen factory will be refurbished to provide a state of the art student village upon completion, having been derelict since 2000. The existing building will be converted into individual studio apartments, taking advantage of the generous floor to ceiling heights and large windows. The top floor will utilise the roof pitch to provide a split-level option. In addition, two new build blocks will be built providing a mix of studios and bedroom clusters.
Providing 336 units comprising 180 studio apartments and 156 bedroom clusters, the scheme will also benefit from high-quality social spaces. These spaces will include a dining area and party room in the existing boiler house, cinema space, a gym, study rooms and central courtyard, with a mix of green space and external dining feeding off the boiler house.
The development aims to be open for the start of the 2019 academic year.
