Glancy Nicholls Architects are appointed to deliver a care centre for Derbyshire County Council. The development consists of three primary areas, inclusive of semi-public/open access facilities, semi-private/resident, staff and visitor only areas, and private/support areas. Affording a supportive environment, the scheme will form an intrinsic part of the Council’s strategy for delivering targeted residential care.

The facility will provide 40 residential beds, with associated ancillary spaces, domestic scale lounge / dining areas and activity spaces. In addition, the development provides communal facilities including a Café / Restaurant and public Library service.

The site itself is situated in Belper town centre within a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the development encompasses working with an existing building; whereby historically significant facades are being retained, refurbished and incorporated into the scheme. Upon completion, the scheme will ultimately provide a suitable environment for older adults with care needs, whilst also providing the local community with a new Library.

The development will provide a secure, safe and stimulating homely environment for residents requiring care needs, and will also provide a focal hub for the wider community.
