Planning Approval for De Wint Court
Glancy Nicholls Architects are happy to announce that the Planning Application for De Wint Court was unanimously approved at committee on 5th December 2018.
The City of Lincoln Council has experienced unprecedented growth in the numbers of older people in the City and Lincolnshire as a whole, as a result there is a real need to expand the number of suitable accommodation and access to the care and support required for an ageing population.
This project and others like it, will enable people to be as socially included and as independent as possible and will provide a focal point for their relatives, friends and carers offering both advice and practical support.
The site is current occupied by an ageing 34 unit sheltered care development, built in 1969, that has fallen into disrepair and is also viewed as not fit for purpose due the poor level of accommodation (predominantly bedsits), which fall well below current levels of acceptability, the level of vacant units had also been increasing steadily until such time as the building was closed in the summer of 2018.
Partial funding has been approved from Homes England, for 70 extracare apartments with associated supporting accommodation. The development provides for substantial landscaped gardens and parking for 35 vehicles. The twenty, 2 bed apartments are designed to be a minimum of 63sqm and the fifty, 1 bed apartments to a minimum of 52sqm. Designed such that they are suitable for wheelchair adaptation, if required, and are in accordance with Lifetime Homes guidelines the apartments will provide comfortable, safe and contemporary homes.
