GNA to Deliver Redevelopment of Birmingham’s Municipal Bank
Glancy Nicholls Architects are thrilled to announce that our bid for the 3 Centenary Square scheme; the Birmingham Municipal Bank Redevelopment; has been successful, making GNA the Executive Architects for this major refurbishment of the Grade II Listed Bank.
Working alongside Galliford Try on behalf of the University of Birmingham, the scheme will provide a brand-new city-centre based campus for the University, also ensuring community access and contributing to the wider Arena Masterplan being undertaken opposite.
The Municipal Bank has been vacant since 2006, having been sold to Birmingham City Council. Built in the 1930’s and designed by T.Cecil Howitt, it is of key significance to the UK’s second city and importance lies within the preservation of the original culture and value. With the University of Birmingham obtaining the leasehold of the building in 2017, Glancy Nicholls Architects and Galliford Try will work together to honour the Bank’s historical architectural standing.
As a Birmingham-based Architectural Practice, Glancy Nicholls Architects are delighted to be appointed onto such an exciting development in such a key area of Birmingham City Centre. The studio’s experience of working with historical and listed buildings will provide the City with an iconic development of its significant Municipal Bank.
