Since the completion of this project the Elms Nursery has been Listed Grade II by the Secretary of State. The project brief involved a combination of conservation requirements and site constraints whilst requiring the maintenance of daily operation as a day nursery. Therefore careful phasing with particular focus on security for children dictated the construction programme.

A reorganisation of the existing building has been provided to establish better connections with the new extension. The combination of white rendered gable walls, contrasted with a terracotta tile cladding wrapping the North-South facing walls and pitched roof, reflects the materiality and form of the existing building.
